First, the thing worth writing down
A manual always starts as a walk somebody knows by heart and has to explain again and again. This one goes from the front page of this site to a project’s demo, and it is the walk the recorder is about to follow.

The manual writes itself while you work
Nimbrook turns application workflows into step by step manuals. Record with the browser extension or let an agent capture the flow, then edit the result on A4 sheets and export it as PDF, PowerPoint, Word or Markdown, or publish it on the web.
These are real captures of this site and the current Nimbrook interface. The sheets come from the PDF exported by the application, with a sample manual in each language.

Press record and walk the flow as you always do. The recorder keeps one step per click and per field you fill, photographs the screen the instant before you press and marks what you pressed. Inside the page it paints nothing, so no trace of it ends up in the captures.
Review the captures, remove unnecessary steps and give the manual a title. Publishing sends them to Nimbrook, into your personal space or a project with its own folders and access permissions. An agent can also deliver the captures with the instructions already written.
Write on the A4 layout, drag steps to arrange them side by side and adjust crops without losing the original capture. Add rings, arrows and numbers, undo changes or translate the manual. Optional AI can draft the instructions with your own key.
The composition you are looking at is what comes out: a PDF with the original pixels, a PowerPoint with one slide per sheet, a Word to keep editing, or a Markdown with its captures alongside for a repository or a wiki.
Publish a page that readers can open without an account, or embed it in another site. A project index brings the manuals together, and in-app help opens the right guide for each screen. Turn publication off and access to the page and its captures closes.
Documenting an application captures the data on its screens. Nimbrook can run in the cloud or on your own infrastructure. In a private installation, the application, PostgreSQL and the object store stay inside your network. Projects set who can read and edit each manual; public pages are enabled explicitly.
Optional AI connects to an external provider
You can write the instructions yourself or receive them from an agent. If you enable AI drafting or translation through OpenRouter, you choose the model and supply the key. Those requests send the content needed for the task to the selected provider; without them, a private installation needs no external AI service.
Where it is already running, day to day.
